Petaluma Branch Member Celebrates 110th Birthday
N
oemi Anderson, the oldest known AAUW member and newly adopted Petaluma
Branch member was honored with several bands, refreshments and cake at her
110th birthday party on Friday, September 28th.
Kay Kerriden, Patty Shribbs, Doris
Tolks and Joanne and Terry Garvey, Pam Torliatt and
Pam Granger
were in atten-
dance at her birthday at Sunrise Assisted Liv-
ing.
Former member Kay Sweeney, a current
resident, was also present.
Two grandchildren were by her side, as repre-
sentatives from Congresswoman Woolsey, As-
sembly member Huffman and Senator Migdon's office presented her with
awards. Pam Torliatt, Petaluma's mayor, delivered a proclamation honoring
Noemi.  She seemed to enjoy the giant card  and the two bead necklaces from
the branch.  Pictures are available here

Petaluma Branch Honors SSU Scholarship Recipients
S
everal hundred donors, scholarship recipients and their guests attended the Sonoma State
University twenty-ninth annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony last month.  Educational Foundation Co-Vice Presi-
dent Pam Granger represented the Petaluma AAUW branch on Friday, October 5 2007 at the Cooperage on campus.
Sarah Frieberg and Dawn Wilburn-Saboe were this year’s branch scholarship recipients.
Following a welcome speech by Dr. Izabela Kanaana, chair of the university scholarship committee and remarks by Dr.
Ruben Armiñana, SSU president, Ms. Patricia McNeill, vice president for development invited donors and students to
express their sentiments about the scholarships.
Student after student came to the podium to thank their donors and all of the donors.  Tears welled in many eyes as
appreciation for financial support was told in stories about being the first in their family to go to college, being single
parents working multiple jobs and having other special circumstances.  The audience chuckled in appreciation as one
student mother described dropping her daughter off at first grade telling her to have a good day at school.  “Have a
good day at school, too, Mommy,” her daughter said back to her.
The Petaluma Branch created a scholarship fund at SSU many years ago with a request to the scholarship committee
that the first consideration be given to a re-entry woman.

State Named Honoree
W
hat do Corky Sharp, Jo Harberson, and Joan Lopez have in common?
Each
of them has been a California Named Honoree.
Just as your branch sends in its annual EF donation in the
name of one  of your branch members, California submits the collected donations of all the branches to the Educational
Foundation in the name of one or more of the outstanding members of our state.
Your branch will have the  opportu-
nity to submit the name of a branch member you feel has done  outstanding work to promote the idea of the Educa-
tional Foundation  and/or AAUW California by December 15, 2007.
The form was sent in the Presidents package in
August and is also available on the state web site.
They should be someone who has done something  outstanding for either EF or AAUW, and may also have been busy
in the  community.
The award is made at  the State convention so the person should be present, and other branch
members will want to be there to celebrate with her. Who in your branch would be a good choice?
