A
s mentioned last month, collaboration with other organizations is an ever-growing strength of
AAUW, at all levels. Heres some interesting info about The Womens Intercultural Network
(WIN) and its million women network, the California Womens Agenda (CAWA), provided by Jenny
Shumar, California Regional Director, AAUW .
WIN/CAWA connects women for collective action across the state, country, and world, and has
been doing so since its inception in 1996. CAWA was born in the Bay Area, and Roma Guy,
CAWAs Health Policy Task Force Chair has negotiated the agenda for universal health care since
the first Call to Action in 1996. Universal health care is now on the top burner in San Francisco and
throughout the US.
AAUW has been a partner with CAWA since 1996 to follow up the 4th
World Conference on Women. Education is a
priority of critical concern for the CAWA action network that now reaches a million women in the state. A current focus
is to reach women behind the digital curtain. They are working with First Nation native women in Humboldt County
region and are also connecting immigrant, indigenous and other marginalized women in the Central Valley by net-
working and partnering with women at Pixley Connect and the Advocacy Coalition of Tulare County. They welcome
AAUW partners to mentor and expand the possibilities for all women to have a voice in their communities.
As a flagship project of WIN, CAWA is connected to 19 other states in the US Women Connect national action net-
work. This is an opportunity for AAUW to reach deeper into US communities with them to amplify womens voices on
critical public policy issues, and elections, that affect all Americans.
In celebration of their achievements WIN/CAWA is hosting a gala and fundraiser in San Francisco on November 2nd.
All women are invited to join them.

Womens Intercultural Network for their websites.

New Member Profile
N
an Krelle joined the branch in September. She has lived in Petaluma for 4 years, and
originally hales from southern California. Nan was an AAUW member for 35 years in
southern California and in Paradise. She has worked as a realtor and as a social worker with
children, and found unexpected parallels in the two professions since they both required her
to go into peoples homes, assess the home / house, and serve people. Nan is busy with
travel, reading, walking, crafts, her church, and helping with the family Christmas tree busi-
ness in the Sierras and at the Marin farmers market & the SF Ferry building market during
the weekends prior to the holidays. If you are looking for a silver tip ... well, talk to Nan, and
please welcome her to the branch.
